2019 Presidential elections: Navigating the Atiku Way!

The 2019 presidential definitely would be a keenly contested one with the former ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) primaries throwing up Atiku Abubakar as candidate to face the incumbent and All Progressives Congress(APC) flagbearer, Muhammadu Buhari...but let us take a look at the man, Atiku Abubakar.

*This will be his fifth presidential contest having participated in all but one of the country’s presidential elections as an aspirant, candidate or vice-presidential candidate since 1993.

*Atiku has strong political network across the country.

*Atiku has a strong financial base...oh yes, he is believed to have a deep pocket and only one of few who could fund a robust presidential campaign against an incumbent.

*Atiku is very liberal despite being Fulani Muslim. He has connected with many parts of Nigeria and his businesses are run by people from different parts of the country. He has family linkages across the three main parts of the country. His first wife, Titi is Yoruba, Jennifer (Jemmima) is Igbo while Fatima is Fulani. He is detribalized!

*Atiku has been able to develop a really strong policy document on Nigeria which he did through his National Democratic Project, an NGO he founded. He prepared a blueprint on Nigeria covering the economy and other sectors. Atiku is one who is ready to be president from Day One. He is prepared!

*Atiku has full backing of all party members and those that even contested the PDP primaries with him. He has been able to bring about true unity within his primary constituency which is very key.

So why not Atiku?

CJN’s suspension: A dictator bares his fangs

Punch Editorial Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari surrendered all pretence to the rule of law and constitutional democracy by sacking the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen. Unilaterally and in flagrant violation of the Constitution, he also swore in Tanko Muhammad as the new acting CJN. By this act, the President has precipitated needless confusion in the polity. Opposition parties raise alarm over Buhari's plot to destabilize National Assembly

A Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have raised the alarm about plot to destabilise the leadership of the National Assembly tomorrow. Briefing journalists about the alleged plot yesterday in Abuja, CUPP spokesman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, disclosed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has released funds for the plan. He disclosed that the plot would result in the emergence of the Senate leader Ahmed Lawan, as Senate President, while Femi Gbajabiamila would become the Speaker of the House of Representatives. In a related development, the PDP has alerted of moves by the presidency to bribe Senators of the APC extraction to protect President Muhammadu Buhari from imminent parliamentary sanctions for constitutional breaches and gross misconduct.
